Volunteering Opportunities
Volunteering enables you to develop leadership skills and use your expertise and experience to help build a better community. Below are a variety of opportunities available at the Flint Islamic Center; emailing and inquiring about a position does not obligate you in any way. If the position is available, and minimum requirements (listed below each position) are met, you will be contacted. If you are completing service hours, please be sure to print out any forms needed. Event Maintenance: Ensures that materials are maintained in good working order and are available when needed. Assists skilled maintenance workers with projects for the day of the event. Assists in arranging furniture and equipment; cleaning FIC and grounds areas as needed to help in creating a safe and clean environment for participants.
Requirements: Volunteer will be required to perform multiple tasks on and/or day(s) before the event. Ability to follow guidance of skilled maintenance worker and/or chair of event.
Landscaping: Volunteer to help in weeding, fertilizing, pruning etc. Assist with the maintenance of the trees and shrubs, garden collections, and landscapes.
Requirements: Willingness to learn and ability to follow instructions.
Childcare: Care for children while parents are attending an FIC event. Provide a clean and safe environment while organizing activities according to children’s needs. Sign in and sign out sheets required. Must be 15 years or older.
Requirements: Good communication skills with parent and child. Dependable with ability to organize and prepare appropriate activities for children.
Event day traffic flow: Assist to effectively distribute traffic onto alternate routes on event days.
Requirements: Dependable individual with effective communication skills and ability to work as a team. Ability to take instruction from lead.
Ramadan Prayers Facilitator: Volunteer to ensure the prayer area remains at low level of noise. Gently guide groups to areas outside of the masjid where discussions may be held during prayer times.
Requirements: Effective communication and people skills.

Graphic Design: Responsible for designing graphics, electronic advertisements, posters, and fliers for FIC activities/events.
Requirements: Ability to use computer software to generate creative designs; review final layouts and receive feedback. Effective communication skills.
Video Production: Film/edit video shoots and use images to bring together a video presentation.
Requirements: Must be dependable, have good communication and time management skills. Good knowledge of principles and practices used in video production and the operation of video equipment.
Photography: Take pictures that will capture the story at FIC events.
Requirements: Knowledge and ability to use camera and equipment. Dependable, responsible volunteer with effective communication and computer skills.
Marketing and Promotion of Events: Volunteer to publicize and promote FIC events.
Requirements: Must be creative, dependable, and possess effective communication skills.

Course development for IHSAN: Ability to create content which is functional, easily navigable and creates ease of learning according to course content and guidance of Sheikh Abdullah Waheed.
Requirements: Good in writing, research, and computer skills. Level of Islamic knowledge must be above average with the ability to read/understand Arabic and Quran.
Youth Events/Trips: Volunteer to assist with students on various fun trips throughout the year. You must be 18 years or older.
Requirements: Volunteers are expected to comply with program policies, follow the directions given by the event coordinator, work cooperatively with other volunteers and model appropriate behavior. Volunteers must supervise students at all times while at the event. Ability to account for all participants throughout the activity and upon arrival/dismissal. Volunteers should be able to go over rules and standards of behavior, and any safety rules with participants. All volunteers should be able to follow any emergency consent to treat forms.
Teaching / Assisting in Quran: Teaching children and youth proper recitation of the Quran while being a positive role model.
Requirements: Dependable volunteer who will attend consistently, with effective communication and teaching skills for young children and/or youth. Ability to recite Quran using tajweed.
